Some words to honor Dr Martin Luther King…Melani A Ismail

It is almost eery as I listen to Martin Luther Kings voice coming from my children’s room. They were quietly listening to The “I Have a Dream” speech. Martin Luther Kings vision was so far above and beyond him. It went beyond even his years on this earth and it is still to this day one of the most powerful declarations of a dream. The words are still resounding to this day and it could not be a more appropriate time with the resurgence of racial division that has hit our country recently but we must once again gather around and listen to these words and be reminded of how far we have come even though the enemy would try to make us go backwards. But don’t do it! Don’t look at your brother or sister of another race with contempt just because the powers in the air want to stir up strife. Fight back. Because there was a time that many could not fight back and were lynched quietly. But we have a voice now! Use it! Use it to tell the truth. To uncover the truth! Let God deal with the evil men who think they have gotten away free. All must stand before The Great and Mighty Creator! Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord one way or the other. But until that time we are called to love and not to hate. I am reminded of Abel who was killed by his brother because of jealousy and his blood cried out to God and God punished Cain in the way He chose. Innocent blood will continue to cry out and we must allow God to take vengeance. Vengeance is mine says The Lord. But we must not act like our enemy because that is exactly what his evil intention is after. We must act like Our Creator and love no matter what. I believe Martin Luther King is in that great cloud of witness and I have to believe that he is smiling in spite of what is going on right now because just like 50 years ago he had to see by faith, he had to walk those miles by faith, he had to ride that bus by faith, sit in those jails by faith, and even deliver one of his last speeches by faith. Some of these words are from that speech…..

Well, I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn’t really matter with me now. Because I’ve been to the mountaintop. I don’t mind. Like anybody, I would like to live - a long life; longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land. So I’m happy, tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.)

This is the way I want to celebrate Martin Luther King today…

Thank you Mr. King
